James has significant experience in corporate finance with a focus on growth technology companies. He spent more than 15 years in venture capital finance, corporate development, and strategic planning.
Prior to joining Tiempo Development, James was the Managing Director of Commercialization at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen). In that role, he was responsible for all commercialization and licensing activities, and used his expertise to counsel company executives in the areas of venture finance and corporate development. He oversaw all business operations, contracts, and intellectual property agreements for a $45 million strategic initiative in personalized medicine with several international partners.

James also was the CFO at Desert Document Services, Inc., a leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider serving the mortgage-lending industry. In addition to being responsible for all financial operations, he successfully led the company’s efforts to be acquired by Wolters Kluwer Financial Services in January 2007.
James received an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Entrepreneurship and Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona. Outside of Tiempo, James is an active board member of the Venture Fellows program at the University of Texas in Austin. He is a member of the Arizona Technology Council’s capital formation and cloud technology committees, and also participates in the local chapter of Financial Executives International. James also serves as the President of Financial Executives International's Arizona Chapter, which was honored as the Most Outstanding Chapter for 2016-2017.
