DevOps Certifications: Get Certified and Get Ahead

A global, member-based association, the DevOps Institute (DOI) “is dedicated to advancing the human elements of DevOps success,” explaining that “All of our work, including accreditations, research, events, and continuous learning programs – is focused on providing the “human know-how” to modernize IT and make DevOps succeed.” This is accomplished through their human-centered SKIL framework, the acronym SKIL describing Skills, Knowledge, Ideas, and Learning. The Institute is led by DevOps thought leaders and enables training providers to leverage the DevOps Certifications Model to provide comprehensive, relevant, sustainable courses. Many learning centers and other training resources study with the DOI to earn accreditation as a Registered Education Partner (REP) which licenses to them the use of the latest courseware and the approval to enable their students to earn certification credentials as proof of their qualifications to work in a DevOps environment.

DevOps Certifications May Aid Your Path to Success

DOI has defined specific courses of study each leading to levels of certification that are respected and appreciated by most employers and certainly by all practitioners of DevOps methodologies. Other DevOps Certifications

Some cloud providers, software developers, and others are offering their own custom courses leading to their own certification credentials, including:

DevOps Certifications Can Be Good For Some

Similar to earlier vendor-sponsored certification programs for support of servers, storage, networks, security, and more, each of these only demonstrates your capability in products coming from the related vendor. This is viable when you are sent for training by a new employer to train on products that are running in their environment. Seeking these to support a search for new employment will prove limiting.

You may be best served by combining DOI-based certification with certifications in the platforms and products you personally prefer to work with.

Also remember that DevOps is growing and changing rapidly. This list will very likely be outdated by the time you read it, so be sure to research well beyond it while planning your personal path to DevOps.
