Our People and Culture

At Tiempo Development, we believe that successful software development starts with a successful team. We foster a working culture that allows us to provide excellent service for our clients, and we continue to seek growth opportunities to improve our professional and our personal lives.

Why Culture Matters

According to Harvard University Professor James L. Heskett, “effective culture can account for 20-30 percent of the differential in corporate performance when compared with ‘culturally unremarkable’ competitors.”1 Company culture has a powerful effect in the way teams achieve together. Teams that work in an open-environment that empowers collaboration will generate innovative solutions that surpass client expectations.

Culture is a product of the core values practiced by a company. To develop a culture that values quality service and ingenuity, we enact six core values that emphasize the professional and personal well-being of our teams.

Our Core Values

These core values act as our guiding principles for the way we interact as colleagues, clients, and success at Tiempo Development:

1. We make and keep promises. We believe in being accountable to the promises that we make to our clients, our team and to ourselves.

2. We create repeatable success. Our teams consistently look for new ways to refine our skills and best practices for our clients.

3. We approach challenges as opportunities to improve. We always strive to produce the best results with each setback seen as a chance for growth.

4. We accomplish awesome things together. Together we collaborate, innovate, and learn to perform better for the team’s best results.

5. We are passionate about helping our clients succeed. We internalize the success of our clients as our own, going the extra mile for positive results.

6. We respect, support and care for the People in our lives. We lead our teams by example as representatives of Tiempo Development.

Tiempo Development supports many opportunities for employees to practice and integrate core values into their responsibilities through exercises and events. Many of these opportunities are initiatives held by employees themselves, taking ownership of an excellent work culture.

Empowering our Teams

Social Activities

When recruiting at Tiempo Development, we take into consideration the values of the candidates as well as their technical skills. We want to ensure that the candidate is a good fit for the brand, our clients, and their colleagues.

To celebrate our core values, we highlight one of our values with a monthly activity for all of our employees and management. Recently, we held a Mario Kart, video game tournament at all three of our development centers– Guadalajara, Hermosillo, and Monterrey, Mexico – to practice our core value of approaching challenges as an opportunity to improve. The winners at each location were given an award in recognition for their resilience during the tournament and a gift card for their success.

Team Building Committees

Tiempo Development has self-run committees at every development center to organize and host team building exercises and activities. The committees hold 20 unique events each quarter, from hiking trips and marathons to holiday parties and laser tag. These committees develop a work environment that emphasizes personal growth and team cohesion.

Twice a year, our teams have Culture Week where, every day for a week, we perform team exercises that reflect one of our values. These activities encourage conversations about how to implement these values in our everyday lives for a positive work culture.

Valuing Family

On the last day of our culture week, we celebrate with our Tiempo Family Picnic where teams invite their families for food, games, and prizes. We hold the core value of “respect, support and care for People in our lives” in high regard. We encourage our teams to organize special events around Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and employee birthdays.

Since many of our employees move to the cities in which the development centers are located, away from home, we have found that a healthy work-life balance creates productive teams. Teams that are more energized to take on the day’s challenges.

Tiempo Development places a high value in the wellbeing of our employees and their willingness to collaborate for the best solutions.  We recognize that many outsourcing nightmares stem from teams that don’t mesh, but we have learned over the past 10 years that creating an environment that is conducive to teamwork averts these issues.
